I love Freddie’s swing, his rythym is impeccable!! The other swings I like from days gone by are Julius Boros, Sam Snead(of course) and Ben Crenshaw. I name Ben because he’s from Texas, like me, and we are close to the same age but when he was younger, his swing was a thing of absolute beauty and he was fearless with the putter and around the green!!
just playing Devils Advocate but did you see the video Couples Swing Secret. It’s tough to imagine he is throwing the right side with no pressure in the right hand at all.I think even if this happens slightly after impact ,which is hard to tell,he would not lose this much control of the right hand just after contact.Seems to me like he is using his left side predominantly.
All that means is that when Freddy hits the ball and his hands rotate he pays no attention to keeping the hands together. It is a pure throwing motion release where if you were throwing with the right hand the left hand wouldn’t have anything to do with it anyway. I see the swing as a right arm side-arm throwing motion, and although I would prefer my students to have their hands together during and after impact it doesn’t mean it’s absolutely necessary. Couples & Singh prove that.
What about the fact ,also pointed out in other videos ,that his right hand is hardly gripping the handle at all,I mean coming off at impact not just light? Some claiming he is swing with only the right side torso, arms and hands being active?
its the most beautiful swing ever. like the most expensive art, freddie’s swing is god like.
I would say that you are correct in your observations. Freddie’s hands are much more free than Johnson’s. The debate would be about which procedure was the better one. The Couples release is more hand oriented, which makes the timing more difficult, but very powerful when organized well. The Johnson release is more pivot oriented, and the face closes more with the trunk movement than with the turning of the hands. Both have been utilized to win major championships.
Does he get his power from his release? Seems he snaps his wrist after impact more than ..lets say Zack Johnson, who doesn’t seem to release even after impact.
Yeah it’s boring, so what?
@dr71956 Didn’t learn anything? I’ll bet you fell asleep in class as well.
@dr71956 60,000 people have slept through this video. Maybe its because Freddie’s swing is so smooth. Sometimes it seems like he’s about to fall asleep when he plays.
@dr71956 A cure for insomnia?

Fred in really vertical at the top, and the swing seems pretty steep. I don’t see how he can keep his rpms low with this steep swing. How does he keep his spin down?
well, i think due to his relaxed posture and the centrifugal force, his hands will escape his original shaftplane.
Freddy has been my favorite golfer since 90. I tried to emulate his swing but as I have gotten older and much taller, I don’t think I can have his smooth swing. I have a more inside outside swing but he is still my favorite player of all time. Height has alot to do with his swing. If he was 6’1’2’3 then that swing would take adjustments. I was his size for the longest while but once I reached my height, I began to realize that swing doesn’t work for me. But it is so sweet to watch.
Freddy gets that two plane swing working perfectly, he drops into the slot which gives him a slight delay at impact which in turn gives the trampoline effect to the driver. most amatures don’t see that, they swing only back and fourh on the same plane getting only the club head speed their hands and arms can generate….for a true golf drive and 300 plus yards, you have to do what Freddy is doing and every other pro, Jim Furyk is the over exageration of the move! check it out!
because when you set up with the driver on the ground and line up the center of the clubface with the ball, its not in the center when you lift the club up to where you’ll be hitting the ball, always aline your driver with the ball in the air, and then rest it on the ground
That is what they all say. That he is probably the player with the most consistant ballcontact maybe ever.
What GRIPS does fred use??
So that means Wayne and Fred are both 50 no
because, as this video pointed out, his shaft plane is higher as he comes into the ball which means the club is further from the ball than when it started. moe norman got around this by setting his hands in that position at address.
Nicest looking swing in history.
